Founder of Embody Balance Eating Disorder Recovery
Welcome! My name is Hannah Fowler and I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) with over a decade of experience in the eating disorder field. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of treatment settings, including residential treatment centers and outpatient programs. Most recently I was the Director of Clinical Services for a large eating disorder treatment facility in Southern California. With my expertise in the field, my goal is to support you in building a healthier relationship with food and your body. My approach is warm, fun, compassionate, and deeply rooted in the belief that every person has the ability to recover. Together, we’ll work through the challenges you face, address the underlying emotional and psychological struggles, and create lasting change that helps you to embody balance in every aspect of your life.

specialties
Anorexia
An eating disorder characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image that leads individuals to severely restrict their food intake. Anorexia can affect both physical and mental health, often leading to serious health problems.
body image
Body image refers to how an individual perceives and feels about their own body. When an individual has an eating disorder, body image is often significantly distorted and/or negatively impacted by societal standards.
diabulimia
Diabulimia is a term used to describe the dangerous practice where individuals with type 1 diabetes (and sometimes type 2) deliberately restrict or omit their insulin to lose weight. This is an eating disorder that combines both diabetes management and disordered eating that can lead to severe physical consequences.
Binge eating
An eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating, which means consuming an unusually large amount of food in a short period of time, often accompanied by a feeling of loss of control.
compulsive exercise
Compulsive exercise refers to an obsessive and unhealthy need to exercise excessively, usually driven by a deep-seated fear of weight gain, a desire to control one’s body shape, or an attempt to alleviate feelings of guilt or shame.
Veganism
A lifestyle and dietary choice that is often motivated by ethical concerns or animal welfare. It’s important that veganism isn’t used as a way to restrict or control food, but rather as a mindful and sustainable choice. (P.S. I’m a vegan too)
ARFID
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder is an eating disorder characterized by an avoidance of food due to sensory discomfort or past negative experiences with eating rather than a fear of weight gain.
bulimia
An eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating, followed by compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain, such as purging (vomiting), excessive exercise, laxative use, or fasting.
disordered eating
Disordered eating refers to a range of unhealthy eating behaviors that don’t necessarily meet the criteria for a specific eating disorder, but still reflect an unhealthy or dysfunctional relationship with food and body image.
Client Testimonial
“Hannah created a safe and supportive space for me when I felt completely stuck in my eating disorder. She really took the time to help me understand the barriers I had in my recovery process and reminded me of the joy and freedom that come with healing. With her help, I was able to feel more comfortable in my skin and rediscover the ability to participate in movement for joy and not as a way to change my body or punish myself.”
